No, it's not related to our IMPACT evaluation system. Earlier this year, I submitted a proposal to Deloitte on behalf of my school. Deloitte sponsors a global community service day, IMPACT Day, once a year. On Friday, June 11, we will have over forty volunteers coming into our school to help us continue to improve.
Deloitte volunteers will be assisting with our field day events and reorganizing and cataloging our library books as well as installing a new check-out system. I'm most excited about the face-lift the front of our school is going to get with new landscaping.
I also applied for and received an Earth Day Network Green Schools grant earlier in the school year. I really wanted an outdoor classroom space for our students to learn about the environment, but also attracted native wildlife. Deloitte will be helping with the installation of this space. We chose native flora (including blueberry bushes!) that will achieve our goal of supporting the fauna in our area.
I hope to upload a few before and after pictures over the weekend.
Although it's been a lot of work to coordinate everything, I'm really looking forward to IMPACT Day!

Very awesome! You ROCK! Thanks for all your hard work!
Sphere: Related ContentI'm sure that all the fine people from Deloitte will secure their place heaven as a result of their one day of service to the destitute children of DCPS.
Sphere: Related ContentOne day or not, tis better than nothing. Appreciate the small things, or the big things will not come your way. Also who knows what this one day of service will spawn, may touch one person in a much deeper way and lead to bigger and better things. Regardless, it is always easy to be negative but hard to put things into action. I say applause for Dee, Deloitte, her students, and her school,

Sphere: Related ContentIt's unfortunate that the attendance lists for service days will not include parents of the children who actually attend the school. This attitude secures people a solid place in life as consumers and victims of the system rather than participants. If they were doing it themselves there would be no need to even look for volunteers.
